# How we check our facts

Every fact on Kin Papers comes from a state’s own statute, court website or official form, and every page shows the date we checked it. The Kin Papers team writes the pages, re-checks them every quarter and corrects them when a state changes a limit, a waiting period or a form. No lawyer has reviewed the pages yet, so nothing on the site is legal advice.

## Where do our facts come from?

State facts come from primary sources only: the state’s statutes, its courts and agencies, and the official forms they publish. Federal and credit-bureau steps come from those agencies’ and bureaus’ own pages. We don’t take facts from law-firm blogs or other form sites.

## How are pages dated?

Each source on a page lists the date we last checked it. A page’s “Updated” date is the most recent of those check dates, and the same date is in the page’s structured data. A date only changes when someone re-reads the source.

## What happens when we can’t confirm a fact?

We leave it off the page and track it as an open item until we can confirm it with the state’s own source. A page with open items stays a draft and isn’t published.

## How often are pages re-checked?

Every page is re-checked against its sources every quarter, and sooner when a state changes its limit, its waiting period or its form.

## Has a lawyer reviewed these pages?

Not yet. No page on Kin Papers has had legal review, so the pages explain the published rules and aren’t legal advice for anyone’s estate. Before any state’s filled form opens, a lawyer will review the forms and letters for that group of states.

## How do you report an error?

Email hello@kinpapers.com with questions or corrections. We correct confirmed errors and update the page’s check date.
